Staying relevant: Nina Barnes’ changes to chapel

Worship chapel is student led and happens every Friday on the University of Northwestern's campus (photo by Tatyana Breitkreuz).

The requirement of regular chapel attendance every semester, though seen as a chore by some, distinguishes Northwestern from many other Christian institutions; the idea of daily chapel is interwoven within the identity of the university. Planning for chapel sessions every school year can be a daunting task, but the hardworking spiritual formation team is committed to providing the Northwestern community the best chapels possible.

Prizes at stake during Knutson’s annual meat night

Knutson Meat Night was a success once again. The point of the night is for each hall to create a theme and then to cook food that fits within that theme while getting to know people from other halls. Guanbei Wondor, the Knutson ARD, stated: “It was so amazing to see the energy throughout the night. The RAs had a good time; the guys were having a good time. It was a competition, but overall, because of the energy and the participation, people bonded.”

Students reevaluate questions regarding missions

During missions week (Oct. 17-21), senior kinesiology pre-therapy major Sam Tindall led an alternative chapel on missions. Students had the opportunity to text in questions about missions to a panel of students who have all been involved in missions either locally, globally or both. While a lot of thought-provoking questions were addressed, many questions were left unanswered in the 40-minute time block.

Campus Character: Matthew Bauman saved by sugar water

Coca-Cola saved Matthew Bauman’s life. At the age of four, Bauman was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a disease that is common in his family. In the years since his diagnosis, Bauman’s life has been riddled with doctor appointments, needles and close calls where his life was almost lost.
