Men’s basketball season ends with loss in title game

The University of Northwestern – St. Paul men’s basketball team saw their season come to an end with a loss at Bethany Lutheran College in the UMAC Championship game. With the loss, the Eagles ended their season with a 14-13 overall record and an 11-5 record in conference play. While the team struggled in early games, they fought through losing all five 2016-2017 starters to come back and challenge Bethany Lutheran for the UMAC title. “[We have a] close group of guys with great team chemistry,” explained head coach Tim Grosz. “We kept improving as the year went along, starting 2-9 and finishing by losing a hard-fought game in the conference tournament championship after a big win at St. Scholastica in the conference tournament semifinal.”

UNW seniors look back on four incredible seasons

With a heartbreaking loss in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament, the University of Northwestern — St. Paul will bid farewell to their five seniors: Captains Will Gisler, Porter Morrell, and Cody Sprenger, as well as Peter Maring and Aaron Youngberg. During their four years as members of the team, the men’s basketball team achieved great things including four Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament titles, three UMAC regular season titles, and the unforgettable Sweet Sixteen run in 2015
