Spanish Majors Work in Local School to Decrease the Achievement Gap

One of the main concerns at Emmet D. Williams is that there is a large achievement gap between native English speaking students and those who learn English as their second language. This is primarily true among the Latino students. “The achievement gap in Minnesota is continually increasing and so by growing future teacher’s awareness of this issue, we can hopefully start heading in the right direction,” said Cronen. Together, both schools have created a program that they think will serve the students best.

Northwestern splits into four colleges

After much deliberation, prayer and research, UNW created its four colleges on Aug. 1 of 2014: The College of Arts & Humanities, the College of Behavioral and Natural Sciences, the College of Professional Studies and the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. Each division is an umbrella for numerous departments.

Recent graduate teaches high school students in Slovakia

After Pederson graduated in May of 2013 with a major in education (specializing in English as a second language) and a minor in intercultural studies, she set out to teach high school classes in Levice, Slovakia as a Fulbright scholar.
